Communities urged to bid for youth grants
The launch of two funds earlier this month for voluntary and community groups supporting youth projects has sparked interest from across Norfolk.
Norfolk County Council’s Youth Innovation Fund aims to create new opportunities for young people and new ways of working in local communities, while the Youth Transition Fund is to help support existing work affected by changes in funding.
The funds will support local communities while the County Council works to create seven Youth Advisory Boards (YABs) to steer youth activities in each of the county’s districts. These boards will commission and oversee youth support and activities.
The Youth Transition Fund is worth £250,000 and is administered by Momentum. The fund provides grants of between £550 and £10,000 for successful applicants. It supports organisations affected by changes in funding, that may need help to continue to meet young people’s needs, or those that are struggling with increased demand.
So far there have been 12 expressions of interest about the Transition Fund, plus around 10 separate enquiries, and the grant website page has received 130 hits. Examples of bids have included those from youth groups and those working with young people with special needs.
The Youth Innovation Fund is worth £150,000 and is administered by the Norfolk Community Foundation. It can provide grants up to £5,000 for new projects or ways of working. To date there have been several expressions of interest as groups develop new ideas.
Potential grant applicants should first submit an expression of interest. The deadline for the first round of applications for the Innovation Fund is Friday 11 November. Grants from the Transition Fund will be allocated on a rolling basis.
